Crespi Celebrates Science Day

The students of Crespi Carmelite High School and the Science Department hosted this inaugural event for some of the best science students in the area.

On Saturday February 18, 2012, elementary and middle school students visited Encino Crespi for an opportunity to participate in Crespi Science Day.

The students of Crespi Carmelite High School and the Science Department hosted this inaugural event for some of the best science students in the area. The select group spent the day receiving instruction and performing fun experiments in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology and Biology.

The day began with a telescope station to view mercury with Mr. Olson, Physics teacher and chair of the Science Department. Crespi Senior, Sebastian Edwards was helping out with the activities and observed the visiting students “really liked looking at the telescope and the sunspots.”

Their next lesson was a virtual dissection in the physiology room with Mr. Strickler. According to Crespi Senior Max Merrill, “the virtual knee replacement looked so real a few kids cringed at the site.” Their final lesson was an experiment led by Dr. Brahim in the chemistry lab. “Her chemical burn test demonstration was their favorite,” added Edwards.

The Crespi Science Day festivities ended with one final experiment and group event. Everyone involved with the event enjoyed a special ice cream treat created by a process that removed heat. “All the students visiting campus enjoyed the day’s activities, and making our own ice cream was the best way to end the day,” Merrill said.
