The suspected drunk driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI following the accident in the 19200 block of Ventura Boulevard and was transported to a hospital, said Officer Olga Arriaga of the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division.

The victim was a woman in her 60s, Arriaga said. Neither the suspect's identity nor the extent of his injuries were immediately released.

Arriaga said the suspect had been driving eastbound on Ventura when he struck the rearmost of six vehicles stopped at a red light at the intersection with Vanalden Avenue around 11:05 p.m. Monday.

The suspect, who drove a gray Ford Taurus, entered the store after the collision, purchased beer and began drinking it outside the store, CBS2 reported.
