A Reminder From the LAPD to Lock Your Windows

Van Nuys Division warns of an increase in burglaries in recent weeks, as well as Honda vehicle thefts.

The Los Angeles Police Department's Van Nuys Station issued warnings Thursday to residents urging them to lock their windows because of a rash of burglaries through unlocked windows. The station also warned drivers of older Honda Civics and Accords that thefts of those cars have increased in recent weeks.

In the case of windows, Senior Lead Officer Trent Berry said, "We have recently had residential burglaries where the suspect was able to gain entry through an unlocked window."

Berry urged residents to "harden the target" by locking their windows when not at home.
