Actor Chris Kattan Suspected of DUI, Arrested in Encino

The arrest came after his Mercedes plowed into the rear of a Caltrans vehicle.

Actor Chris Kattan of Saturday Night Live fame was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on suspicion of driving under the influence this morning after he plowed his Mercedes into the rear of a Department of Transportation vehicle on the Ventura (101) Freeway in the Encino area, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A Los Angeles Department of Transportation crew was performing guardrail maintenance on the westbound Ventura Freeway west of Balboa Boulevard around 1:50 a.m. and had the No. 4 lane closed with orange cones, said CHP Sgt. Tom Webster.

Dispatchers had received a call about a 2011 Mercedes weaving all over the roadway at slow speeds, Webster said.

“As the driver of the Mercedes approached the DOT work crew, the vehicle crossed the cone pattern and struck the rear of a DOT vehicle within the closure,” he said. “The driver was not injured and exited the vehicle on his own.”

CHP officers were on the scene providing assistance with the lane closure, Webster said.

No DOT workers or CHP officers were injured, he said.

The CHP identified the driver as Chris Kattan, 43, of Beverly Hills.

In addition to Saturday Night Live, Kattan's credits include episodes of The Middle, How I Met Your Mother and his own series AllaKattan!, according to IMDb.

When interviewed by CHP officers, Kattan confessed he was on prescription medication, the celebrity news website TMZ.com reported. The DOT vehicle he struck was empty, according to TMZ.

Kattan's bail was set at $15,000, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
