The singer was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Singer Bobby Brown, the ex-husband of the late Whitney Houston, was arrested in Tarzana today on suspicion of driving under the influence. Brown, 43, was arrested about 12:20 p.m. at Victory Boulevard and Wilbur Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Harris.

Brown was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, Harris said. According to a CHP report, Brown was driving west on Victory just east of Yolanda Avenue in moderate traffic when an officer saw him talking on a cell phone.

``Mr. Brown displayed objective symptoms of intoxication and was asked to submit to a series of field sobriety (tests) that he was unable to perform as explained/demonstrated,'' according to the report.

He was taken to jail in Van Nuys and his bail was set at $5,000, which he later posted. According to TMZ, Brown has a DUI conviction on his record stemming from an arrest in Georgia in 1996.

He pleaded guilty and served eight days in jail. Brown, who rose to fame with the group New Edition, was married to Houston for nearly 15 years. Houston died Feb. 11 at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Coroner's officials said the singer drowned in a bathtub, but had used cocaine that contributed to her death.
