Caller Reports Several Armed Men Possibly Chasing a Prowler

Here's what Patch heard on the police radio the night of July 26.

3:17 p.m.

13100 S. Figueroa St., Willowbrook

LAPD is informed of a woman "wearing a white shirt and blue skirt stumbling and walking onto traffic."

3:23 p.m.

LAFD's Air Operations, Van Nuys Airport, Van Nuys

LAFD's Engine 87 (based in Granada Hills district) radios Operations Command Dispatch (OCD) and advises that their critical pediatric kidney patient needs immediate transport via "air ambulance."  They will take him to LAFD's "Air Ops" helicopter quarters at the Van Nuys Airport.

10:04 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

North Hollywood Division LAPD is dispatched to the residence for a "459 hot prowl" (a burglary attempted while the residents are still home). The dispatcher informs the responding units that "the front door is the point of entry." The patrol units are directed to respond "code 3" (an emergency response with lights and sirens).

10:05 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

LAPD receives another call from the street location regarding the possible "459 hot prowl," this time the dispatcher says that the caller reports the possible prowler has moved onto a neighbor's property and the woman neighbor is now screaming, and then the caller abruptly hangs up. A responding patrol unit asks about a "suspect description," but the dispatcher replies that the possible "459 hot prowl suspect" is only described as "a male." He is reported to be screaming also.

10:08 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are informed of an "unknown trouble call" (this is a call in which there is a live phone connection but no verbal communication from the caller) found to have originated from the Riverton Avenue location. Responding units are directed to respond "code 3."

10:08 p.m.

Balboa Boulevard and Killion Street, Encino

LAFD Rescue 99 and Light Force 93 are responding to a traffic accident at the intersection.

10:10 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

LAPD helicopter "Air 11" is now over the scene of the possible "459 hot prowl." The helicopter unit advises the North Hollywood patrol car on Riverton Avenue that the possible prowler was last seen and may be hiding in the backyard of a "peach-colored" residence, next door to where there is "the RV in the driveway."

10:12 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

The LAPD units on the scene have now received a description of the possible burglar/prowler. He is described as a male wearing a "green T-shirt, blue jeans."

LAPD helicopter "Air 11" advises the ground units that there are a "lot of trees back there and it's difficult to see if he's still back there or not," and that the "garage door is also open."

10:13 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

The LAPD units on the scene are updated on the information provided by one of the callers. The suspect may possibly have been chased down the street (to this present location) by an "unknown number" of males driving in a small SUV with "back-tinted windows." The person reporting ("PR") also observed that the man being chased was screaming for help.

10:16 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

The LAPD helicopter uses its powerful spotlight to illuminate the backyard and garage area of the location where the man is believed to be hiding.

10:17 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

One of the patrol units on the scene observes there are many doors and gates to check near the "peach-colored house." The units plan to "door knock" among the neighboring houses. They are particularly concerned about a "white door" that keeps opening and closing.

Sherman Way and Vineland Avenue, North Hollywood

LAPD Valley Traffic patrol units are called to investigate a "hit-and-run misdemeanor" (the driver fled the scene of a minor car accident with property damage only) at the intersection.

10:18 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

The "white door" that keeps opening and closing is found to be a neighbor "letting the dog in and out."

10:19 p.m.

6700 block of Cleon Avenue, North Hollywood

North Hollywood Division LAPD receives a call about a "prowler suspect there now." A man is seen running through the property of a townhouse complex. The person reporting observed the man open a gate to the shared property and run through the backyard. The caller then lost "the visual on the suspect."

10:21 p.m.

North Hollywood

North Hollywood LAPD receives a call about a "Hispanic gang member wearing a white shirt with Dallas Cowboys logo and (the number) 81, tattoos on the neck." The caller observes that an unknown group of men are looking for him, armed with guns, and driving in a unknown type of vehicle. Responding patrol units believe this may be related to the Riverton Avenue incident.

10:23 p.m.

Glenoaks Boulevard and Osborne Street, Pacoima

Foothill Division LAPD patrol units are informed of "possible 211 suspects there now" (a robbery in progress). A third party observes the victims in a "silver Dodge Stratus" who were confronted by two men attempting to "take their money."

10:24 p.m.

Ventura Boulevard, Studio City

North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are dispatched to a "reckless driver" call. A "silver Volkswagen" is observed "swerving in and out of lanes at a high rate of speed."

10:24 p.m.

11700 block of Ventura Boulevard,  Studio City

North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are called to investigate possible "child neglect" at the Studio City Inn. A woman is seen with a  2 1/2-year-old boy, the possible victim.

10:37 p.m.

6600 block of Riverton Avenue, North Hollywood

North Hollywood Division patrol units are now interviewing the neighbors. They have cleared the garage and backyard of the "peach-colored house," but the "459 hot prowl suspect" is still at large. LAPD Air 11 has assisted as much as it can, and departs the scene.

10:58 p.m.

11900 block of Burbank Boulevard, North Hollywood

North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are dispatched to investigate a "screaming man" at the location. The person reporting says he hears a man screaming in the back of the parking structure at the location.

11:00 p.m.

5200 block of Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood

North Hollywood Division LAPD are alerted to an "attempted suicide" at the location. A man is on a pay phone and telling 911 that he is going to commit suicide by "walking into traffic."

11:07 p.m.

5300 block of Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood

LAFD calls LAPD for "back-up" on their call. This is possibly related to the "attempted suicide" call received earlier.
