The coroner on Monday released the name of a man fatally struck by a suspected drunken driver while standing outside his car on the Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino Sunday.

He was Alfredo Abraham Alvara, 24, of San Bernardino, said the coroner's Lt. Joe Bale.

Alvara's silver 2008 Scion TC was stopped in westbound traffic lanes on the Ventura Freeway just east of Balboa Boulevard and Alvara was standing behind it, according to a collision report from a California Highway Patrol Officer at the scene.

Toyota 4Runner driver Robert Graves, 31, of Reseda, didn't see Alvara and struck him and and the silver Scion around 4:15 a.m. Sunday, the officer said.

Alvara was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers—Erica Monge, 30, of San Bernardino and Teresa Oporto, 23, of Fontana—were transported to hospitals with major injuries, the officer said.

Graves and a woman riding in his SUV, Arleen Paperny, 28, of Reseda, suffered minor bruises, and she was transported to a hospital for treatment, according to the CHP.

Graves was booked on suspicion of drunken driving, the CHP reported. Los Angeles County sheriff inmate records indicated he was being held in the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Jail in Van Nuys in lieu of $1 million bail.
