Dick Van Dyke Rescued from Burning Car

"[Jason] Pennington says he opened the driver door and pulled the actor out of the vehicle as flames tore through the engine," TMZ reports.

Comedian Dick Van Dyke was rescued Monday afternoon when his four-door Jaguar burst into flames on the Ventura Freeway near Parkway Calabasas.

He was pulled to safety by Jason Pennington who told gossip site TMZ he was driving along the freeway when he saw a car full of smoke on the side of the road ... and an elderly man hunched over at the wheel.

Pennington told TMZ that he stopped, ran over, and found 87-year-old Dick Van Dyke struggling inside.

"Pennington says he opened the driver door and pulled the actor out of the vehicle as flames tore through the engine," TMZ reported.

Dick Van Dyke did not require medical attention, and his wife came to pick him up.

The actor-comedian was star of the classic comedy series "The Dick Van Dyke Show" and films such as "Mary Poppins" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang."

The car was a burned hulk.
