Encino Man Shot and Killed at Home; 'We Have Very Few Leads,' Police Say

Police said the shooting might have happened during a home-invasion robbery.

A man of about 80 suffered a gunshot wound Thursday morning inside his house in an upscale Encino neighborhood and died at a hospital, police said.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Andasol Avenue, just south of the Ventura (101) Freeway. The man's wife was home at the time, police said.

The circumstances of the shooting were under investigation by detectives from the LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division.

Police told KNX radio that the shooting might have happened during a home-invasion robbery.

"Right now, we don't have any suspect description," LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith told ABC7. "We have very few leads to go on, but that's why Robbery- Homicide Division is here. They're so good because they're so thorough. They'll look at everything in this case."

Smith said the victim was well-known in the neighborhood and well-liked.

The man's name is Harvey Cohen, according to broadcast reports.

"We've not ruled out anything, so we're going to keep an open mind as this investigation goes, and let the ... clues lead us (in) the investigation," Smith said.

A .45 caliber bullet casing was found, but no gun was recovered, a police investigator told a news photographer at the scene.
