Gunfire Real and Fake Requires Massive LAPD Response Monday

A drive-by shooting, fireworks reported as gunfire and a man shot in the arm are all heard over the police scanner.

These are the raw data reports of LAPD communications heard over the police scanner on Monday. Communities covered by Patch are boldfaced.

In Chatsworth, police are seeking a man who twice is believed to have  at Lawrence Middle School and approached young girls by telling them he needed to put a tracking device in their bras.

1:37 a.m. 6800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood

LAPD units respond to reports of a drive-by shooting. A 19-year-old man was . A sheriff's deputy chases a white van occupied by five or six people seen fleeing the area, but loses the van. It is found by an LAPD helicopter a few minutes later, but has been abandoned. No arrests have been made.

Monday Night

9:10 p.m. 8400 block of Langdon Avenue, North Hills
Mission Division LAPD units are called to the scene of a possible shooting on Langdon Avenue, a street with numerous large apartment buildings.

9:12 p.m. Burbank Boulevard and Bonner Street, North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are inundated with dozens of "multiple shots heard" calls in a wide area of North Hollywood, from the blocks north and south of Burbank Boulevard, between Vineland Avenue and Lankershim Boulevard, with a majority of the calls placing Burbank Boulevard and Bonner Street as the possible "shooting scene."

9:16 p.m. Due to the possibility of an armed suspect at large, an LAPD helicopter and several patrol units respond to the area, with the helicopter circling above as the patrol cars race down the streets in the immediate area searching for an alleged shooter and/or evidence of gunfire.

9:22 p.m. After several hectic minutes and by interviewing witnesses near the Burbank Boulevard and Bonner Street intersection, it is determined that the source of the "shots heard" was only fireworks. Minutes later, a North Hollywood patrol unit finds a box in the area containing spent fireworks.

9:24 p.m. 8400 block of Langdon Avenue, North Hills
LAFD Engine 90 and Rescue 90 inform Operations Command Dispatch that LAPD is on the scene and so far they have not found a shooting victim. Engine 90 and Rescue 90 are preparing to leave the scene, if there is no patient.

9:28 p.m. 8400 block of Langdon Avenue, North Hills
LAFD's Operations Command Dispatch (OCD) radios Rescue 90 and Engine 90 to return to the scene of the possible shooting. LAPD is still there and request their services.

9:29 p.m. LAPD dispatcher broadcasts a description of the possible shooting suspect: a male wearing a "dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and dark shorts, used an unknown type handgun"and is seen running away from the crime scene, northbound on Langdon Avenue.

9:31 p.m. Multiple locations in North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are dispatched to investigate these disturbance calls.
A "507/disturbance" (loud noise or music disturbance) at Bakman Avenue and Sylvan Street.
A "507/firecrackers" (loud disturbance, likely firecrackers) at Califa Street and Cleon Avenue.
A group of drunk people at the H. Salt Fish & Chips at 4700 block of Vineland Avenue.

9:42 p.m. 11600 block of Balboa Boulevard, Granada Hills
LAFD Rescue 818 is called to the scene to help an assault victim at the residence.

9:44 p.m. Ventura Boulevard and Cedros Avenue, Sherman Oaks
Van Nuys Division LAPD patrol units are called to the scene of an "ADW (assault with a deadly weapon) in progress." Two males are witnessed beating up on one man, who is down on the ground. The assault is happening at the rear of the Mad Bull Tavern.

9:48 p.m. Reseda Boulevard and Victory Boulevard, Reseda
West Valley LAPD patrol units are called to scene of a man assaulting a woman, with a "code 3" response (with lights and sirens).

9:48 p.m. Somewhere in the Van Nuys area
Rescue 100 is on the scene of a shooting victim and reports that the man has "an exit wound on the right, upper part of his arm."

9:50 p.m. 12100 block of Magnolia Boulevard, North Hollywood
North Hollywood LAPD units are called to Jons Market for a alleged shoplifters observed by the management.

9:58 p.m. Sherman Way and DeSoto Avenue, Canoga Park
Topanga Division LAPD is notified by a citizen who witnessed an alleged drunk driver traveling on Sherman Way towards Winnetka Avenue.

10:02 p.m. 12200 block of Magnolia Boulevard, North Hollywood
The first North Hollywood LAPD patrol unit has arrived at Jons Market and observed three possible shoplifters in the aisles of the supermarket. An additional patrol unit has been called to help with detaining two of the alleged shoplifters and capturing a third that has fled the premises.

10:06 p.m. Barham Boulevard and Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills
North Hollywood Division LAPD units are notified of a reckless driver in the area. A "dark blue or black, old Camaro, early 90's (model year)" seen driving south on Barham Boulevard.

10:15 p.m. 4600 block of Cahuenga Boulevard, North Hollywood
North Hollywood LAPD units are called to the scene of a possible "domestic violence" incident at the residence. A neighbor has called and reported hearing loud yelling and banging, and also hears a female screaming, "get away from her!" Patrol units are directed to respond "code 3."

10:23 p.m. 12200 block of Ventura Boulevard, Studio City
LAPD patrol units are called to the scene of a theft suspect "there now." The theft is occurring at the California Pizza Kitchen restaurant.

10:26 p.m. 19800 block of Hiawatha Street, Chatsworth
LAFD Engine 107 radios OCD regarding the "rubbish fire." They have driven by the address given, but do not see a fire. Engine 107 looks again, then calls OCD if there is anything further to do on the scene. OCD responds, "nothing further."
