Firefighters were sent to the 4300 block of North Petit Avenue at 8:20 a.m. They extinguished the flames in 17 minutes, said Firefighter Matt Spence of the Los Angeles Fire Department. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

"The single-family-dwelling fire was confined to the kitchen, with a possible extension into the attic," Spence told Encino Patch, adding that the firefighters at the scene were ultimately able to prevent the fire from spreading into the attic.
