LAFD Helicopter Rescues Stranded Hikers

The hikers were stranded near the Encino Reservoir.

Personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department used a helicopter to rescue five hikers stranded near the Encino Reservoir late Sunday afternoon, according to LAFD officials.

LAFD crews were searching for the hikers "by ground and air" by 5:40 p.m., according to LAFD representative Katherine Main.

When the hikers were found, crews used an LAFD helicopter to hoist them to safety while an LAPD airship provided assistance, Main said.

The hikers, who were not injured, were evaluated by paramedics after the rescue, she said. None of the five required transportation to the hospital.
