The accident happened around 12:40 a.m. Friday.

A man in his 40s who was going through trash bins looking for recyclables was killed Friday when he was run over by his own pickup truck in Lake Balboa.

The fatality occurred around 12:40 a.m. at the intersection of Archwood Street and Hayvenhurst Avenue, said Los Angeles police Sgt. Cameron Dunnet of the Valley Traffic Division.

``The car went backwards and ran him over,'' said Sgt. Cameron Dunnet, Valley Traffic Division watch commander. The man, a San Fernando Valley resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
