UPDATE: Suspected DUI Driver Fatally Strikes Man on Encino Off-Ramp

The victim's body wound up underneath one of the vehicles involved in the Sunday morning crash, according to authorities.

A 31-year-old suspected drunken driver is believed to have caused a two-vehicle crash on the Ventura (101) Freeway in Encino that left one man dead and three others injured today, the California Highway Patrol said.

The motorist, Reseda resident Robert Graves, suffered minor injuries in the crash on the westbound freeway, just east of Balboa Boulevard, which was reported to the CHP at 4:13 a.m. Sunday, according to a department statement.

Graves, driving a 2008 Toyota 4Runner, failed to see a 2008 silver Toyota Scion TC that was stopped in a traffic lane, according to the statement.

The sport utility vehicle struck the car and its driver, a 24-year-old man from Chino, who died at the scene. The deceased man wound up underneath the 4Runner, said CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.

Two passengers in the Toyota Scion, a 30-year-old San Bernardino woman and a 23-year-old woman from Fontana, suffered major injuries, according to the department statement.

Graves was booked on suspicion of drunken driving.
