Missing Woman and 2 Children Found Safe

Here are some of the top stories in the East San Fernando Valley.

Sylmar

Police in Sylmar today found three people -- a woman with a mild mental handicap and two young children -- two days after they were last seen leaving a Long Beach fast food restaurant, and all appeared to be OK.

Marie Williams, 25, Sarah White, 8, and Nicholas Sanders, 6, had left an apartment complex near Santa Fe Avenue and Spring Street about 4:45 p.m. Saturday to walk to a fast food restaurant, according to a Long Beach Police Department statement.

Police said the trio had arrived at the restaurant at closing time, around 6 p.m. Saturday, and were turned away. The trio was last seen walking north on Santa Fe Avenue.

They were found apparently unharmed about 8:30 this morning in Sylmar, said Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

The three are not related. Williams lives at the complex with a relative. White is from the Palmdale area and was in Long Beach with her mother visiting friends who live at the complex. Sanders and his family also reside at the complex.

Pratt said the three were in the custody of Los Angeles police officers, and Long Beach officers were en route to collect them.

Glendale

A large-scale marijuana growing operation was discovered June 7 in a warehouse in Glendale, police said.

The cannabis cultivation operation was discovered around 11:30 a.m. during a narcotics raid at 3462 San Fernando Road, said Sgt. Tom Lorenz of the Glendale Police Department.

"There was a marijuana grow, and in four rooms within the warehouse there was upwards of about 1,000 plants," Lorenz said.

Seven people, whose names were not immediately released, were arrested in connection with illegal operation, Lorenz said.

Sylmar

Los Angeles police breaking up a loud party in Sylmar Sunday arrested three or four people who allegedly threw bottles containing an unknown liquid at officers.

Two officers were taken to a hospital be checked out after the midnight clash at a home in the 15100 block of Polk Street, according to a desk officer at the Mission Station, who said about 100 people were at the party.

Those arrested could be booked for assaulting a police officer. The homeowner was expected to be cited for causing a nuisance.
