Monday Calls Heard Over the Police Scanner

LAPD units in the San Fernando Valley handle a police chase, a false report of a suicide jumper and a "code 30 ringer."

These are the calls heard over the police scanner by LAPD units in the San Fernando Valley on Monday. Boldfaced communities are covered by Patch.

Monday

1:45 p.m. Corner of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Sherman Way, North Hollywood

when the driver of a possible stolen vehicle crashes into another car. The two occupants flee on foot. The passenger is apprehended, but the alleged driver of the stolen vehicle is seen fleeing into an industrial area along Vose Street. The LAPD shuts down all traffic in both directions on Laurel Canyon and searches the area with K-9 units and a helicopter into the early evening but does not find anyone hiding in the area.

6:19 p.m. Corner of Ventura Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard, Sherman Oaks

Someone calls 911 and reports a possible suicide jumper on top of a billboard. No further talk is heard on the scanner, but responds to the scene and find no evidence of a jumper.

Monday Night

11:03 p.m. 7100 block of Whitsett Avenue, North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are called to the scene of a possible "battery/domestic violence" at the residence. They are requested to respond "code 2" (without lights and sirens) to the incident.

11:04 p.m. 13300 block of Victory Boulevard, Valley Glen
LAFD Engine 102 and Rescue 89 are dispatched to attend to a stroke victim at the residence.

11:05 p.m. 4200 block of Colfax Avenue, Studio City
A North Hollywood Division LAPD unit is called to check out a "code 30 ringer" (burglar alarm) situation at the residence.

11:13 p.m. Weddington Street and Craner Avenue, North Hollywood
North Hollywood LAPD units are informed of possible "motor vehicle burglary suspects" seen on Weddington Street. The caller observed two males using a flashlight to look into parked vehicles.

11:25 p.m. Glenoaks Boulevard, Pacoima
LAFD Task Force 98 and Rescue 74 are on the scene of a traffic accident involving 10 cars. Task Force 98 advises Operations Command Dispatch (OCD) that CHP is not yet at the scene. They also request a basic life services ambulance to assist with any possible injuries.

11:30 p.m. After surveying the possible patients at the accident scene, Task Force 98 cancels the response of the other ambulance, as there is only one patient with substantial injuries.

11:32 p.m. Foothill Boulevard and Valmont Street, Tujunga
LAFD Light Force 74 and Rescue 77 are dispatched to help a person with "difficult respiration."

11:39 p.m. Rescue 77, an advanced life services ambulance, is cancelled by Light Force 74, already on the scene. Rescue 898 is dispatched instead, as only a basic life services ambulance is needed for this call.

11:43 p.m. Baltar Street and Variel Avenue, Canoga Park
Topanga Division LAPD patrol units receive a call for several "shots heard" near the intersection. Responding units are requested to respond "code 3" (with lights and sirens) to the scene. A caller reporting the incident possibly heard several gunshots, then heard a car speeding away.

11:48 p.m. Burbank Boulevard and the 405 Freeway, Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area
LAPD helicopter, Air 10, is responding to assist the ground patrol units with a possible suspect's car found parked near a trail at the park.

11:49 p.m. 7800 block of Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood
LAFD Rescue 889 and Rescue 60 are dispatched to help a person who suffered a fall.

11:54 p.m. Devonshire Street and Tampa Avenue, Northridge
Devonshire Division LAPD patrol units are called to investigate a possible "mentally-ill" man at the intersection, seen walking in and out of traffic. The dispatcher advises that the man may just be drunk or "under the influence of narcotics," instead of having a mental disorder. Patrol units are requested to respond "code 3" (with lights and sirens).

11:55 p.m. Reseda Boulevard and Plummer Street, Northridge
LAFD Engine 70 and Rescue 103 are dispatched to help a "person down" at the Acapulco Restaurant.

11:57 p.m. 7800 block of Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood
Rescue 889 is on the scene, and radios OCD that Rescue 60, the advanced life services ambulance responding, is not needed for this call.

11:58 p.m. Reseda Boulevard and Plummer Street, Northridge
LAFD Engine 70 is on the scene of the "person down," but the restaurant's security person says the patient does not appear to be at the location.

Midnight Devonshire Street and Tampa Avenue, Northridge
A Devonshire LAPD unit on the scene notifies the dispatcher that the possible mentally-ill person causing the disturbance at the intersection is now "in custody."

Midnight Reseda Boulevard and Plummer Street, Northridge
LAFD Engine 70 calls OCD to advise that the patient has possibly left the scene. The LAFD dispatcher asks the fire team to "standby," as the patient has called back 911.

12:01 a.m. 13300 block of Victory Boulevard, Valley Glen
LAFD Rescue 881 is dispatched to the scene of an "injury."

12:01 a.m. Reseda Boulevard and Plummer Street, Northridge
The dispatcher tells Engine 70 that the patient says she is still inside the restaurant.  The dispatcher adds that there is "some trouble getting the patient outside."  Engine 70 radios back that they will go inside the restaurant to help her.

12:02 a.m. 5700 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood
LAFD calls numerous engine companies and rescue ambulances for a possible structure fire at the apartment location.

12:02 a.m. Reseda Boulevard and Plummer Street, Northridge
Engine 70 radios OCD that they do not find the patient inside the restaurant, and the restaurant staff know nothing about the alleged "person down." The OCD dispatcher informs Engine 70 that there is no more information on the whereabouts of the patient, who was a "very difficult caller."

12:04 a.m. 5700 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard, North Hollywood
LAFD Light Force 60 is first on the scene of the possible structure fire, and they radio OCD that they find no signs of a fire.

12:04 a.m. Reseda Boulevard and Plummer Street, Northridge
Engine 70 asks OCD if their call may be a possible "assault," due to the apprehensive behavior of the caller. But the dispatcher says the caller did not define the nature of the situation. Because of the absence of an actual patient along with the ambiguity of the caller's information, Engine 70 requests that this incident be noted as a "false" call.
