Police Blotter: 2 Violent Crimes Last Week

A list of local police activity from Aug. 12-20.

Our usually sleepy community made regional headlines this week when a man suspected of killing two people in Chatsworth and as they closed in on him early Monday morning. Brent Zubek, 43, was with eight felony counts, including assault with a firearm on a peace officer. He was ordered to be jailed without bail pending arraignment Sept. 19 in San Fernando Superior Court on six counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer and one count each of possession of a firearm by a felon and carrying a loaded, stolen firearm.   

Later Monday afternoon, three juveniles were injured, two seriously, in a on Burbank Boulevard near Balboa. The 2008 Audi A4 veered off Burbank Boulevard and smashed into a tree, according to authorities. The investigation is still ongoing and will be assigned to a detective.

Encino's crime rate is currently higher than in nearby Bel-Air, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Sherman Oaks, Tarzana and Lake Balboa, according to the database.

Aug. 12 

A petty theft was reported at 10 a.m. in the 5500 block of Newcastle Avenue.

A burglary was reported at 10:15 a.m. in the 16600 block of Magnolia Boulevard.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 8 p.m. in the 5500 block of Edward E Horton Lane.

A petty theft from vehicle was reported at 8 p.m. in the 17600 block of Bromley Street.

Aug. 13 

A burglary was reported at 6 p.m. in the 15700 block of Castlewoods Drive.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of Burbank and Balboa boulevards.

A stolen vehicle was reported at 7 p.m. in the 5400 block of White Oak Avenue.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 11 p.m. at the intersection of Encino Avenue and South Ventura Boulevard.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 11 p.m. in the 5300 block of Zelzah Avenue.

An assault with a deadly weapon was reported at 10:20 a.m. in the 5400 block of Newcastle Avenue.

A burglary was reported at 1 p.m. in the 4900 block of Balboa Boulevard.

Aug. 14

An assault with a deadly weapon was reported at 10:20 a.m. in the 5400 block of Newcastle Avenue.

A burglary was reported at 1 p.m. in the 4900 block of Balboa Boulevard. 

Aug. 15

A stolen vehicle was reported at 5 a.m. in the 5500 block of Newcastle Avenue.

A petty theft was reported at 7 a.m. in the 5800 block of White Oak Avenue.

A grand theft was reported at 7 p.m. in the 17400 block of Ventura Boulevard. 

An attempted burglary was reported at 11:30 p.m. in the 17400 block of Ventura Boulevard.

Aug. 16

A burglary was reported at 6:30 a.m. in the 17800 block of Twilight Lane.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 10:30 a.m. on at the intersection of Balboa and Burbank.

A burglary was reported at 1:30 p.m. in the 16300 block of Meadow Ridge Road.

A grand theft was reported at 5 p.m. in the 16400 block of Marbro Drive.

Aug. 17

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 8:10 p.m. in the 16700 block of Morrison Street.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 9 p.m. at the intersection of Zelzah and Killion avenues.

Aug. 18

A burglary was reported at 1 p.m. in the 5900 block of Lindley Avenue.

A burglary was reported at 8:15 p.m. in the 4400 block of Woodley Avenue.

A petty theft from vehicle was reported at 11 p.m. in the 5100 block of Newcastle Avenue.

Aug. 19

A recovered vehicle and a stolen vehicle were reported at 2 a.m. in the 5400 block of Yarmouth Avenue.

A petty theft was reported at 5 p.m. in the 5400 block of Newcastle Avenue.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 10:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of Green Meadow Court.

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 11 p.m. in the 16900 block of Oak View Drive.

Aug. 20

A burglary from vehicle was reported at 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Balboa and Burbank.

A petty theft was reported at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Hayvenhurst Avenue and Ventura Boulevard.

A robbery was reported at 1 p.m. at the intersection of Ventura and White Oak.
