Power Out in About 600 Homes

Winds cause power lines to fall.

About 600 customers were without power tonight in Encino because of downed wires, according to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

The outage was reported at 4:57 p.m. in the Encino area because of the wind, Gale Harris of the DWP said.

Crews were on scene, but there was no estimate when power would be restored, Harris said.

Winds had also knocked out power in scattered areas of South Los Angeles, Harris said.

I drove through just as the lines broke and sparks were flying. There was an area that was burning from another line too. It was scary. I tried to report it to the DWP but the automated answer had no option for emergencies and took way too long. At 6pm the street was still closed.
