Israeli and Palestinian Protesters Block Federal Building in Westwood [Video & Photos]

Police say they have the crowd under control.

Traffic was blocked and police were out in riot gear in Westwood Sunday afternoon where a protest over the military action in Israel and Gaza was taking place near the Federal Building. By 5 p.m., crowds were dispersed without incident, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

An estimated crowd of about 400 people assembled—split roughly in half between Palestinian and Israeli supporters, according to several witnesses.

Demonstrators from both sides made their voices heard, shouting slogans on both sides of Wilshire Boulevard at the Federal Building.

Protesters blocked traffic in the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Veteran Avenue. Approximately 40 law enforcement officers dressed in riot gear stood south of the Federal Building, the witness said.

Local police were on a modified tactical alert in response to the situation, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The California Highway Patrol closed the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway Wilshire Boulevard off-ramp to assist with crowd control.

Marcy Winograd also Tweeted photos of the protest. The author and teacher was with Jewish Voice For Peace at the Westwood Federal Building (see photos.)

All of this venomous bile really turns my stomach! I really doubt that anyone actually read what was posted. It is sickening. If everybody loves the middle east so much, go live there. Go drive tanks over children and enjoy. Leave America out of it.

The more you expeess yourself the more you clarify my point Rebecca,,,, I was born in the middle east, but i have been an American since my early teens. I have travelled all over the world and that gives me the perspective that I have.... Many Americans like Rebecca are generally good people, but naive and ignorant about world affairs... G-d bless America , as ishe's been the beacon for fredom, but the way its voting populous is changing, that can change.. Rebecca and her school of thinking is unfortunately becoming the majority...

sharam, rebecca's anti-semitic point of view isn't the norm , nor will it ever be....I know there are thinly disguised Jew haters like Rebecca, but what I don't understand are Jews who are pro-palestinian, and therefore anti-israel...

Glen, I don't think Rebecca is necessarily anti-semite... she is just ignorant about other countries and dislikes their people! Chances are, never been outside the American continent! Your point about liberal anti-Israel jews is very valid, I have a close relative who got his brain washed in one of those famous leftist schools of law...unfortunately, majority of the students coming out of most universities tend to lean left because of the teachers and the generally anti-conservative atmosphere.
