Rescuers Find 2 Lost Teens at Topanga State Park

Encino sisters call 911 on cellphone, then help police guide helicopter to their location Sunday night.

Two teenage sisters from Encino were rescued Sunday night in good condition after getting lost in Topanga State Park, a police sergeant said.

The sisters, ages 14 and 17, called 911 with a cellphone at about 8:15 p.m. to say they were lost in an area south of Reseda and Ventura boulevards, Sgt. Jason Zabel told City News Service.

The girls did not know how to use the GPS or compass applications on their iPhone, but they were able to tell police when a fire helicopter was getting close to them and helped guide it in, he said.
