Scanner Report: Shooting at VIP Showgirls

In a little more than an hour on Friday night, it's very busy for the LAPD and the LAFD.

9:00 p.m.
LAPD Communications broadcasts to all city-wide patrol units a special announcement of the retirement of Detective Tommy Culotta,  commemorating his service with the LAPD for over 35 years.  In the late 90's,  Detective Culotta was stationed in the North Hollywood Division and received the Medal of Valor for his actions during the "North Hollywood Shootout". Detective Culotta joined the LAPD in October of 1975.

9:05 p.m.
7800 block of Vantage Avenue, North Hollywood
LAFD Rescue ambulance 889 (a basic life services '800 series' ambulance dispatched for less-critical medical situations) is sent to help a sick person at the location.

9:09 p.m.
18300 Roscoe Boulevard, Northridge
A West Valley Division LAPD patrol unit is sent to investigate a possible "forgery suspect" in the emergency room of Northridge Medical Center.

9:10 p.m.
Tobias and Roscoe Boulevard, Panorama City
LAFD's Operations Command Dispatch sends a rescue ambulance to the intersection to attend to a person suffering "a seizure."

9:11 p.m.
Eastbound on Nordhoff Street at Costello Avenue,  Panorama City
A Mission Division LAPD patrol unit radios dispatch and advises that they are following a "reckless driver" and requests a back-up unit (an additional patrol car) to assist in the situation.

9:12 p.m.
Near the 405 closure,  westbound on Mulholland Drive, Sepulveda Hills
LAPD is notified of a "390 group" (a group of drunk people) on Mulholland Drive.  The group is last seen driving away "in a black BMW 7-series" with a female driver.

9:18 p.m.
Ventura Boulevard and Laurel Canyon Boulevard,  Studio City
North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are called to the location for a "found adult" at the bus stop. (A found adult is usually a person who is disoriented and needs assistance getting back home.)

9:20 p.m.
100 block of North Park Avenue, San Fernando
LAFD Engine 98 and Rescue 75 are sent to help a person suffering a "hemhorrage" at the location.

9:21 p.m.
West 8th Street and South Cabrillo Avenue, San Pedro
Harbor Division LAPD patrol units are dispatched to investigate a public safety issue at the location. The dispatcher informs the responding officers regarding the scene:  "...at the carnival near the Zipper ride,  a large hostile crowd is growing."

9:23 p.m.
Tujunga Avenue and Victory Boulevard, North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are called to the scene of an "battery, domestic violence" at the laundromat. The alleged assailant is described as the boyfriend of the victim. The patrol units are directed to respond "code 2" (without lights and sirens).

9:23 p.m.
Saticoy Street and Troost Avenue, North Hollywood
A North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol unit radios the dispatcher that they have stopped a possible "code 6 Charles suspect" (a wanted person,  known to be dangerous and possibly armed) at the intersection.  After checking police resources for indentification,  the alleged "code 6 Charles suspect" is taken into custody.

9:25 p.m.
Campo De Cahuenga and Lankershim Boulevard, Studio City
A North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol unit radios the dispatcher that the "code 6 Charles suspect" that they have stopped is not the person that is wanted-  it is only a person with the same "common name."

9:27 p.m.
5200 block of Cahuenga Boulevard,  Toluca Terrace
North Hollywood Division LAPD patrol units are called to the scene of a "415 fight" (public disturbance by loud argument or fisticuffs).  Patrol units are directed to respond "code 2."

North Hollywood LAPD receives another call about a fight at the apartment building.  Another neighbor reports a "family dispute" at the location.

9:30 p.m.

The responding North Hollywood LAPD units are updated about the escalating violence at the scene of the "415 fight."  The call is now upgraded to an "ADW suspect there now."  The family member involved in the disturbance is now reported to be "armed with a gun."  The patrol units are directed to now respond,  "code 3" (with lights and sirens).

9:31 p.m.
5200 block of Cahuenga Boulevard, Toluca Terrace
The dispatcher provides new additional information to the responding North Hollywood patrol unit,  "15 A 39."  LAFD is responding to the same location for a possible female "assault victim."

9:31 p.m.
10400 block of Ilex Avenue, Pacoima
LAFD Rescue 7 is sent to help a sick person at the location.

9:32 p.m.
Jordan Avenue and Saticoy Street, Canoga Park
Topanga Division LAPD patrol units are sent to the scene of a "battery, domestic violence" at the location. 

9:33 p.m.
5200 block of Cahuenga Boulevard, Toluca Terrace
Another caller reports to North Hollywood LAPD about a "screaming woman" at the apartment complex.  A man is seen carrying the screaming woman back into the apartment,  which is an upstairs unit facing Cahuenga Boulevard.  This call is likely related to the "415 fight" call,  the "family dispute" call,  and the assault-with-a-deadly weapon call.  North Hollywood units are directed to respond "code 3."

9:34 p.m.
5200 block of Cahuenga Boulevard, Toluca Terrace
Another North Hollywood Division patrol unit, "15 L 70" (a senior lead officer) radios the dispatcher that he is also responding to the scene.  He requests another 2 additional patrol units to assist at the scene.

9:35 p.m.

North Hollywood LAPD patrol unit "15 A 39" is now at the scene.  They advise the dispatcher that they are "now approaching apartment 7" and will require back-up units to possibly assist.

9:36 p.m.
19300 block of Nordhoff Street, Northridge
LAFD Rescue 28 is sent to the scene of "the injury" near the Northridge Fashion Center.

9:40 p.m.
24000 Stagg Street, West Hills
LAFD is called to help a person with "difficult respiration" at the residence.

9:43 p.m.
11000 block of Arminta Street, North Hollywood
LAFD Rescue 89 is dispatched to help "the sick" person at the location.

9:46 p.m.
130000 block of Sherman Way, North Hollywood
A North Hollywood Division LAPD officer is observing a possible "484 suspect" (theft, shoplifting) at "the K-mart."

The North Hollywood Division LAPD officer advises the dispatcher that the "484 suspect is now in custody."

9:51 p.m.
Victory Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue, North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD is informed about a possible act of "vandalism" at the residence.  A group of males allegedly broke the windows of a house,  then fled northbound on Tujunga Avenue.

405 Freeway Closure location
LAFD is double-checking their resources on the scene before the actual shutdown of the 405 Freeway between the 10 Freeway and the 101 Freeway.

9:56 p.m.
12200 block of Foothill Boulevard, Lake View Terrace
LAFD is called to the scene of "the unconscious" person at the location.

9:58 p.m.
19600 block of Ventura Boulevard, Tarzana
LAFD is called to the scene of another unconscious person at the business location.

Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Victory Boulevard, North Hollywood
North Hollywood Division LAPD are called to the scene of an "ambulance, shooting" at the "gentleman's club." LAPD patrol units are directed to respond "code 3."

12100 block of Victory Boulevard, North Hollywood
LAFD Rescue Ambulance 89 is dispatched to the scene of a shooting victim.

10:00 p.m.
405 Freeway closure location
LAFD confirms to its units in the area that the 405 Freeway has been shut-down.

10:01 p.m.

North Hollywood LAPD units on the scene have determined that the shooting occurred at the VIP Showgirls strip club.  The possible shooter is described as a "male, hispanic, bald, black leather jacket,  white shirt."

The dispatcher informs the responding LAPD patrol units that the victim was "shot in the head,  at the strip club."  All units are directed to respond "code 3."

A North Hollywood Division LAPD gang unit is now on the scene of the shooting.  Another LAPD unit advises that the shooting suspect was possibly seen running into the adjacent park nearby.

North Hollywood LAPD units have learned from witnesses that the alleged shooter's first name is "Ramon" and he ran westbound to the parking lot at Bellingham Avenue.

12700 block of Muscatine Street, Pacoima
Foothill Division LAPD is responding to an "ambulance, shooting" at the location.  It is reported that there is a "male victim in the middle of the street." 

10:04 p.m.
12100 block of Victory Boulevard, North Hollywood
LAPD gang unit,  "George 42" radios the dispatcher and advises they have "one suspect in custody,  at the parking lot" (on Bellingham Avenue). 

10:05 p.m.
12700 block of Muscatine Street, Pacoima
LAFD dispatches Engine 98,  Engine 7 and Rescue 7 to "the shooting" at the intersection of Muscatine Street and Rincon Avenue.

Foothill Division LAPD patrol units are provided new additional information to the shooting at the location. According to LAFD, "there are 3 male citizens helping the male victim, with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.  The gun is on the ground near the victim."  Foothill patrol units are directed to respond "code 3."

10:07 p.m.
12100 block of Victory Boulevard, North Hollywood
"George 43" (gang unit) informs to the other units on the scene that they are also taking a female suspect into custody.  She is possibly an accessory to the crime.

10:09 p.m.

The North Hollywood watch commander asks the units at the "VIP Showgirls" shooting scene if there are any "outstanding suspects."  Several units answer that there are no more outstanding suspects.  The alleged shooter and the alleged female accomplice are in the custody of the police.
