Single Hour Provides Multitude of Challenges for LAPD on Cinco de Mayo

Listen to LAPD communications over the police scanner.

The purpose of the scanner report is to inform our readers about the variety of calls and challenges the LAPD, LAFD and other rescue units face on a daily basis in the San Fernando Valley. Today's report was collected just over one single hour on Thursday night. (Boldfaced communities are covered by Patch sites.)

Thursday

8:00 p.m. 12700 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, Pacoima
LAFD Rescue 898 radios Operations Command Dispatch (OCD) is searching the location cannot find the patient. They ask OCD if the patient may be "inside a store." OCD responds that the call had generated from "Rite Aid's pharmacy."

8:09 p.m. 13600 block of Hartland Street, Van Nuys
Van Nuys Division LAPD patrol units are called to respond to an attempted suicide at the location.

8:11 p.m. Parthenia Street and Petit Avenue, Granada Hills
LAFD is called to the intersection for an injured pedestrian.

8:14 p.m. Friar Street and Etiwanda Avenue, Reseda
West Valley Division LAPD receives a call about suspicious activity at the intersection. A citizen has observed 3 men sitting in a possible Honda with a fourth man "hiding," possibly acting as a lookout for police, who are presently a block away at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Etiwanda Avenue.

8:17 p.m. 12100 block of San Fernando Road, Sylmar
An LAFD Engine and Rescue Ambulance respond to a "poisoning" at the apartment building.

8:18 p.m. 170 Freeway and Sherman Way, North Hollywood
LAFD is responding to a traffic accident on the 170 Freeway.

8:19 p.m. Ventura Boulevard and Van Nuys Boulevard, Sherman Oaks
LAFD Engine 88 and Rescue 88 are called to an "auto versus pedestrian" accident at the intersection.

8:20 p.m. Hansen Dam, upper parking lot, Lake View Terrace
A Foothill Division LAPD patrol unit requests another partol unit to assist with a "combative patient."

8:21 p.m. Fallbrook Street and Roscoe Boulevard, Canoga Park
Topanga Division LAPD is tipped off by a citizen who is following a drunk driver down Roscoe Boulevard.

8:25 p.m. Somewhere in Los Angeles
LAPD is running an undercover sting operation, targeting people supplying alcohol to someone under the legal drinking age limit (21 years of age). A plainsclothes officer radios his team, "Minor's out, she's on her way top the first location."

8:26 p.m. 14300 block of Van Nuys Boulevard, Arleta
Mission Division LAPD patrol units are dispatched to a "screaming woman" call. The person reporting heard the woman "rolling in the alley" near Canterbury Avenue, and also heard a car leaving the scene at a "high rate of speed."

8:28 p.m. 17100 block of Roscoe Boulevard, North Hills
Mission Division LAPD patrol units are called to an "ambulance/attempted suicide" incident. A "male, 31 years old," was reported to have "cut his arm."

8:28 p.m. Somewhere in Los Angeles
From a distance, undercover LAPD officers observe that their female "minor" has engaged a busboy at a restaurant. They now see that the busboy has let the "minor" enter the premises through a back entrance. After a short moment, the officers see the busboy reappear, with a beverage in hand. "The busboy is getting her a beer... (the officer laughs, somewhat surprised) and ... he just gave it to her."

8:31 p.m. Southbound 101 Freeway and Woodman Avenue, Sherman Oaks
LAPD receives a report of a drunk driver in a white Honda Civic, seen going southbound on the 101 Freeway.

8:31 p.m. Leadwell Street and Vineland Avenue, North Hollywood
North Hollywood LAPD responds to an assault with a deadly weapon call. A man is reported to have been allegedly assaulted "with a metal object." The first patrol car immediately arrives on the scene and requests two additional patrol units to help possibly contain the assailant(s).

8:34 p.m. An LAPD officer radios back to the dispatcher that they need additional units to the scene. The first patrol unit is detaining two males they have identified as "Vineland Boyz" gang members on Vineland Avenue near Leadwell. A second North Hollywood patrol unit is detaining another four gang members in the alley behind Vineland Avenue, south of Leadwell Street. The officer advises the other police arriving on the scene to carefully inspect the grounds to make sure the alleged assailants "didn't drop any items" (to discard possible criminal evidence).

8:35 p.m. A plainsclothes LAPD officer arrives at Leadwell Street and Vineland Avenue to assist.

8:36 p.m. 10900 block of Bluffside Drive, Studio City
North Hollywood Division LAPD receives a call about a "roommate dispute" at an apartment complex. A male caller reporting the incident tells the police that his male roommate is "vandalizing property inside the location."

8:37 p.m. 19000 block of Ventura Boulevard, Tarzana
West Valley LAPD units request an LAPD helicopter for a "roof check" at the business location. There may be a possible burglary in progress.

8:38 p.m. Somewhere in Los Angeles
The undercover LAPD team targeting people who illegally serve alcohol to minors is collecting some photographic evidence at the location.

8:41 p.m. Gilmore Street and Belmar Avenue, Reseda
West Valley Division LAPD is called to the scene of a hit-and-run accident.

8:42 p.m. 17100 block of Roscoe Boulevard, North Hills
Mission Division LAPD is now seeking the possible "attempted suicide" subject; apparently he is able enough to move about and is now evading authorities. An officer on the scene radios the dispatcher for a broadcast of his description. He is described as a male, 5' 10", 160 pounds, 31 years of age, dressed in black, possibly armed "with a black sword" and "wearing his hair in a pony-tail."

8:43 p.m.
5600 block of Reseda Boulevard, Reseda
LAFD Engine 93 and Rescue 93 are called to the scene of a "difficult breather."

8:48 p.m.
Somewhere in Los Angeles
The undercover LAPD team is now setting up their sting operation at another business that possibly provides alcohol to minors. The officers discuss the location's crowded conditions, likely another restaurant/bar situation.

8:49 p.m. 17100 block of Roscoe Boulevard, North Hills
Mission Division LAPD patrol officers working the "attempted suicide" incident update the dispatcher that the man with "his hair in a pony-tail" has "left the metal object in the car, and is not known to have any other weapons."

8:50 p.m. Leadwell Street and Vineland Avenue, North Hollywood
LAPD officers on the scene have stopped a possible "code 6 Charles" suspect (a wanted person, dangerous and possibly armed) in the assault incident. After checking him out, they determine he is not the person they are looking for.

8:56 p.m. 19800 block of Prairie Street, Northridge
Report of a "311 man and woman" (indecent exposure) at the location.

9:00 p.m. 5900 block of Shoshone Avenue, Lake Balboa
LAFD Rescue 83 is called to help an "unconscious person" at the address.
