Update: Traffic Accident Kills Man in Encino

Los Angeles police confirm death of driver who went off the road and hit a tree.

Updated Wednesday at 3 p.m. with victim's name.

An accident involving two cars killed a man on Sunday in Encino, Los Angeles police reported.

Police confirmed the accident victim was Barry Stample, 67, of Sherman Oaks.

The collision occurred on Burbank Boulevard, east of Hayvenhurst Avenue, at about 2:40 p.m., LAPD Valley Traffic Officer Lisset Fuentes said. 

The victim was driving eastbound when he went off the roadway, hit an SUV and collided with a tree, according to police. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police said no one in the SUV was injured.
