Tarzana Man Charged in Slaying of His Ex-Wife, Wounding Her Friend

Hrant Meguerian pleads not guilty to one count each of murder and attempted murder.

A Tarzana man was charged Tuesday with fatally shooting his ex-wife and wounding her male friend.

Hrant Meguerian, 59, pleaded not guilty to one count each of murder and attempted murder.

The shooting occurred about 7:20 p.m. Saturday at the home of his ex- wife, Azniv Meguerian, in the 4500 block of Vanalden Avenue.

Police said Meguerian was arguing with his ex-wife's friend before he allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire. The 51-year-old woman died at a hospital, and her 49-year-old friend was injured.

Meguerian was arrested at the scene and was ordered jailed on $3.5 million bail.

He is due back in Van Nuys Superior Court Jan. 9, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.

If convicted, Meguerian could face up to life in prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.
