Woodland Hills Suspect Held on $50,000 Bail in Fatal Encino Hit-and-Run

A man walking on Ventura Boulevard in Encino was struck and killed Monday by a motorist who fled the scene, but a suspect later surrendered to authorities.

The victim, believed to have been in his 40s, was walking in eastbound lanes of Ventura Boulevard near Gaviota Avenue around 12:15 a.m. when he was struck by a large black SUV, according to police. The man died at the scene.

After a daylong search by police, Woodland Hills resident Grant James Valentine, 26, walked into the Los Angeles Police Department's Valley Traffic Division with his attorney and surrendered, according to Officer Cleon Joseph.

Valentine was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, Joseph said. He was being held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
