Construction Confounds Commuters Arriving at Chatsworth Train Station

Old Depot Plaza Road at Devonshire Street is being widened.

Commuters who missed seeing the sign at the Chatsworth Train Station or the story in Patch were surprised Wednesday when they found the depot access road blocked by construction equipment.

The Old Depot Plaza Road entrance at Devonshire Street is being widened to allow buses to enter without swinging into opposing traffic lanes. Traffic will be restricted to the Lassen Street entrance during construction.

The roadway is scheduled to reopen on Jan. 14.

Metro buses that normally wait for passengers on Old Depot Plaza Road are now waiting on Devonshire Street.

All the parking lots remain open and operations of Metrolink, Amtrak and the Orange Line are not being affected by the closure.

Maybe I just see the newbies, but I see that pulling in they have to wait until both sides of the driveway clears before they pull in. Holds back traffic pretty well.

When I use to live on Eton buses would pass by alot. Made me uncomfortable because they would take up most of the street when cars were parked on both ends.

Please vote carefully March 5 so we can get a City Council that will stop spending our Highest-In-The-Nation tax dollars on stupid stuff. Most of the time the buses have just 2 people on board; would a private business stay in business that way? Our City is doomed and I plan to move out asap. LA City Council won't even enforce SINGLE Family R-1 Zoning laws so boarding houses are cropping up all over the Valley. A boarding house in Van Nuys rents tents in the backyard. The boarding house in my neighborhood, a $700k neighborhood, rents out a bed on his front porch and they have stopped all yard maintenance. Push your councilman to pass CCFO, the ordinance that will limit SINGLE Family R-1 residences to ONE lease and the word SINGLE means. Every other city has such ordinances while LA relies on a 1956 weak ordinance that never envisioned our neighbors becoming such greedy boarding house business owners. CCFO will come before Council, probably in January. One of these boarding houses could operate next door to you tomorrow. Tell your council member to vote YES and make sure strict rules are included in CCFO.

That lane was so narrow that even the buses turning left into the station had to cut across the end of the out lane. It was an accident waiting to happen. It's my guess that if that accident had happened, the same people would be crying just as loud as to why the problem wasn't fixed earlier.

I heard about the construction and detours but was very surprised when the bus drivers could not tell me where to go to get into the Chatsworth station after dropping me on Devonshire. I had to walk in an area that had a chained fence and also had a sign that may have said "private property" but I walked through it anyway because I had to get into the station somehow to catch the Orange Line. Metro should have made a plan to assist those taking the buses down Topanga to Devonshire to get into the station from Devonshire during construction. And this construction is needed as I've seen buses pull into the station and almost hit cars because there is not enough room for them to turn into the drive area.
