Blog: Build Camaraderie by Getting out of the Office

Some people call work events "mandatory fun," but at my family's tow truck company, they're maximum fun.

Some people call work events “mandatory fun,” but at my family’s tow truck company, they’re maximum fun. Especially when us gear heads get out of the office to watch big trucks ripping it up at Monster Jam.

Melissa, from our office, took her daughter and loved the experience—even the time it rained.

“We froze our butts off, but it was still the most exciting time,” she said.

But beware, some companies may want to host a company picnic or an in-house event. Outside events can be just as inexpensive and you don’t have to do the preparation.

Here are some events we have held for 23 employees and their families

  • Bowling—About $500 gets you lanes, shoes, pizza, drinks, cake and more.
  • Monster Jam is  $50 per person and employees can bring their children for a reduced price.
  • Going  to performances, like watching Peter Pan live, is about $50 per person through Goldstar.

So going out for an event gets people out of the office, reduces liability and gets employees interacting in a place that isn’t work.  It’s all about camaraderie and having fun with the people you work with every day.

How do you build camaraderie at work? Tell us in the comments.
