Balboa Golf Course in Encino Hosts City Girls' Final, But Birmingham Is Shut Out

None of Birmingham's three participants advance to the regionals, as North Hollywood wins team title.

Balboa Golf Course in Encino was the site of the City Section girls' golf championships Monday, as North Hollywood edged Van Nuys to win the team championship, while Birmingham had three participants, none of whom advanced.

The six golfers from each of the top two teams plus the other top finishers advance to the CIF Regionals in Murrieta next week.

Birmingham senior Ariel Galleti's 18-hole round of 101 proved the best of the day for the Patriots.

"Ariel and Khajika put up some good scores, I'm proud of them," head coach Kevin Kelly said.

Senior Kiera Dunphy shot a 136 to round out the scoring for the Patriots.

North Hollywood won the team title for the first time in school history, knocking off two-time champion Van Nuys by 14 strokes, 435-449.

"They deserve what they got," North Hollywood coach Steve Miller said. "These girls put in hours and hours of effort. We started in the summer league all the way until now."

Granada Hills High School (497), Venice (521) and LACES (589) rounded out the five-team field.

Van Nuys senior Jann Vongchaisaree won the individual title, shooting a 3-under 70. That was three shots better than North Hollywood senior Monica Petchakan, who was the two-time defending individual champion.
