Former Westmark Teacher Sues School

Lauren Vaughn is claiming that she was unfairly dismissed for complaining about a video of a racist incident at a school fundraiser.

Westmark School teacher Lauren Vaughn has claimed in court that school officials fired her for speaking out about a video of a racially insensitive incident that occured in 2004 at a school fundraiser, according to the Huffington Post.

A video of the incident appeared in March 2012 which, according to the Huffington Post, showed "James Montgomery, a local investment banker and chair of the Westmark School Board, on stage wearing an Afro wig, an animal print costume and blackface."

Vaughn says that she lost her job because she spoke out against the incident; she is seeking punitive damages, according to the Huffington Post. Click here to read the full article, and stay tuned to Patch for updates.
