Westmark School Kicks Off Anti-Bullying Program
The school will be educating its students all week on the dangers of bullying.
Westmark School publicly kicked off a new school-wide program called R.E.A.L. Monday. The program is being launched through a week-long focus on the R.E.A.L. themes of Resilience, Empowerment, Anti-Bullying and Leadership.
R.E.A.L. stemmed from a committee of parents, board members, teachers and administrators that was created last year to be pro-active in response to an increase in bullying activity throughout the nation. Although Westmark has had minimal bullying issues, this group wanted to be pro-active by educating students about the importance of resiliency, empowerment and leadership.
There are a variety of activities this week that are designed to further educate about the program's mission. Scheduled activities this week include a "Mix-It-Up Lunchtime" for middle school students (students sit with those who they traditionally do not sit with); anti-cyberbullying assemblies for all students by the Anti-Defamation League; a special assembly with performances by the Pop Stars and Glee Club; and team-building activities for all students by Boojum Institute for Experiential Education.
