Crespi's Point Guard Wants Quarterback Spot

Junior point guard London Perrantes plans to play quarterback for the football team after sitting out last season.

London Perrantes, one of Crespi Carmelite High’s basketball standouts, was turning a lot of heads during this summer’s against state champion Mater Dei and Santa Monica.

Now, the junior 6’1” point guard is making the transition to football and will be part of a competition for the quarterback position.

"I think it will help me with basketball," Perrantes told the Los Angeles Times.

Crespi will have a wide-open competition for the quarterback spot, with five players in the running.

Though Perrantes aspires to be a two-sport athlete, his passion ultimately lies with basketball and he will face college basketball recruiters this fall.

Being a budding two-sport star also means more work, and Perrantes' seems ready for the challenge. Both the point guard and quarterback positions require an athlete to make decisions, communicate and lead by example.

Perrantes was on the Celts' football team as a freshman, but broke his wrist three games into the season. He sat out last season and is now ready for round two.

In its storied sports history, Crespi has supported multi-sport athletes and encouraged students to have a well-rounded high school career. Jordan Simmons and Kenny Stenhouse are two Crespi football players who made the transition to basketball. Reggie Coates earned a football scholarship to Nevada and played a role on the hoops team. Freshman Amir Patterson is also making a name for himself in both football and track and field.

Patch will follow up with more Crespi sports coverage after the competition.
