VIDEO: Encino Fires a One-Hitter; Shows Northridge No Mercy

Encino Little League defeated Northridge in five innings Saturday afternoon in a 10-0 mercy-rule victory.

Northridge came in outscoring opponents 31-1, but someone didn't tell that to Encino.

Sam Gilderman (1.2 innings), Brandon Dieter (3 innings) and Josh Perlmutter (.1 inning) combined for a one-hit shutout. Dieter was dominant, striking out eight of the 10 batters he faced. Gilderman and Perlmutter added one strikeout each to combine for 10 total strikeouts in just five innings.

On offense, Encino continued its stellar play. They've now scored 30 runs in three games, while only giving up four runs.

Shawn Goosenberg belted six RBI, including a grand slam in the fifth inning. Dieter went 3-for-3 with a home run and three runs scored. Noah Levin scored two runs and blasted an RBI, while going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Michael Walsh, Chris Landers, Perlmutter and Reed Goodman each scored a run.

Encino is one win away from its second consecutive District 40 title. They will play in the championship game on Monday at 5 p.m. against whoever emerges out of the loser bracket after Sunday's game.
