Prior to writing three books in the Kinder Gardens and creating the family garden website kardenscorner.com, Lisa Ely was an award-winning documentary and TV producer who never shies away from a new adventure or challenge.  Her innovative style and creativity has established Lisa as one of the television industry’s foremost producers and directors of non-fiction and reality-based programming.

Throughout her 20 year career in television, Lisa’s diverse credits underscore her talents in both cable and network programming. She has traveled the world, three times over, as a producer for CBS’s “The Amazing Race” and as a director of “Vanishing Cultures,” an independent documentary where Lisa and a team lived with the Botswana Bushmen. She has been a huge force in developing programming for both domestic and international television.

Lisa also has been a volunteer director for more than 20 years at Ronald McDonald’s Camp Good Times for children with cancer. During that time, she helped create and implement outdoor programs for campers of all ages. It is at this magical playground where Lisa has developed her passion for making kids laugh and smile.

Lisa also is the volunteer coordinator at Mid Valley Youth Baseball and can be seen throwing balls with 4-year-olds and keeping score for the 7-year-olds at any one time.  If you’re hungry she’s the first to run to the snack bar and grill up a dog for you, too!

Lisa received her degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Southern California. She received an MBA from Pepperdine University and studied International Business and Marketing at Oxford University and the University of Antwerp.

Lisa has two children, ages 3 and 5, and considers herself an honorary connoisseur of everything kid-related in the garden. Her palpable enthusiasm and determined spirit have ignited a new generation of gardeners.

As a result of playing for hours in the dirt, she noticed that besides learning to grow plants, the garden was another creative classroom for her kids to learn in. They have mastered counting, writing, science experiments and growing a tomato—or two—within the gates of their small Encino backyard.
